T-Mobile completes 400G trial in Czech Republic

T-Mobile Czech Republic has completed a trial of 400G technology with Alcatel-Lucent in a bid to speed up data services in the country.

The trial was held over a distance of 320 kilometres on T-Mobile’s existing network. It used Alcatel-Lucent’s optical network technology, comprising its 1830 Photonic Service Switch and 400G Photonic Service Engine, on the operator’s dense wave division multiplexing network infrastructure.

Alcatel-Lucent said the success of the trial showed how operators can improve their networks without the need to undergo a substantial reengineering of hardware or expanding its infrastructure. It said its 400G technology allows the transmission of data equivalent to 88 Blu-Ray discs per second.

Vladimir Klein, CTO of T-Mobile Czech Republic commented: “Besides our existing commitments, delivering high-bandwidth access via TeraStream, it’s also key for us to permanently verify new and innovative technology options. We always want to offer our customers the best user experience via technology leadership. Offering the fastest data speeds is a natural part of it. This 400G trial shows how advanced our network already is and that we are able to meet higher bandwidth needs of our customers in the future.”

Alan Ilczyszyn, Territory Sales Manager of Alcatel-Lucent, added: “This is the latest in a number of successful trials using our 400G technology and underlines our leadership in IP networking. These trials show the real application of our 1830 PSS DWDM optical transport network solution in allowing providers to smoothly evolve capacity and grow as their customer demands grow.”
