Ciena launches $200m venture capital programme

-

Ciena has launched a new $200 million corporate venture capital programme aimed at supporting startups and technology funds working on the future of networking and connectivity.

Called Ciena Ventures, the scheme will invest in early-stage companies whose technologies align with Ciena’s focus.

Ciena Ventures will focus on technologies that improve networking infrastructure, support next-generation data centres and advance optical networking and interconnects.

Additionally, it will explore opportunities in related areas including computing, materials and emerging communications technologies, the company revealed.

Led by Ciena’s Vice President of Corporate Development, Loai Louis, the new venture arm is the company’s first company-wide CVC initiative.

Ciena, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, David Rothenstein, said: “As technologies such as AI reshape the networking landscape, Ciena Ventures provides another vehicle for executing on our long-term strategy and capital allocation priorities.

“Investing in companies and funds through Ciena Ventures will enable the accelerated development of transformative solutions, strengthen the broader innovation ecosystem, expand our visibility into emerging technologies, and help Ciena to evolve its portfolio, develop new solutions, and pursue opportunities in adjacent markets.”
