Ericsson has partnered with Nex-Tech Wireless to modernise its network across Kansas, in a four-year deal.
As a result, the project will upgrade around 85% of Nex-Tech Wireless’ radio access network (RAN) and introduce a cloud-native 5G standalone (SA) core.
Also, as part of the deal, Ericsson will also deploy its Radio System technology, including the AI-capable RAN Processor 6655, along with new 4G and 5G software features.
The upgrades are expected to deliver faster connections, lower latency and better use of available spectrum across the network, the telecoms giant revealed.
The deal also expands Nex-Tech Wireless’ existing Ericsson dual-mode 5G Core deployment.
Running on Ericsson’s Cloud Native Infrastructure Solution, the upgraded core will add 5G Core and roaming capabilities.
Ericsson’s Telco DataOps Platform will also be introduced. The platform will support the new 5G network while helping Nex-Tech Wireless manage billing and revenue across its core network.
The agreement could also open up a new business opportunity for Nex-Tech Wireless, as the operator plans to add network hosting capabilities that could allow other mobile operators to use parts of its infrastructure.
