Nokia Defence and C3IA have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) focused on improving digital capabilities for the UK military.
As a result of the deal, the two companies will work on ways to help the UK military share information securely and stay connected across different parts of the battlefield.
This includes operations on land, at sea and in the air, as well as the cyber and space domains.
The partnership builds on existing work by both companies through the UK Ministry of Defence’s Tactical Communication Systems (TacSys) framework.
Through the partnership, the MOD and other public sector organisations can access Nokia’s connectivity technology for communications, the technology giant revealed.
The pair also plans to explore a range of technologies, including private 4G and 5G networks, tactical communications, command and control systems, situational awareness, sensing, autonomous systems and edge computing.
C3IA Managing Director, Steve Brown, said: “Delivering defence capability at pace requires more than technology alone. It requires the right combination of secure communications, sector expertise and systems integration.
“Our partnership with Nokia enables the rapid deployment of innovative capabilities that can deliver real operational value on the battlefield. Ultimately, our shared goal is to connect the battlespace, strengthen national security, and help equip the MOD for the future.”
Nokia Head of Defence and Vice President, Mikko Viitaniemi, added: “Through this collaboration with C3IA, we are combining resilient, mission-critical connectivity with expertise in defense systems engineering and support services to help turn technology into operational capability and advance tactical communications and interoperability across future UK defense programmes.”
